Tips on how to remove the smell from the air conditioner
These three parts are the most "vulnerable" of the Air Conditioner
The air conditioning filter is the first screen in the air. Dust, bacteria and impurities in the air will be absorbed by the filter. As time goes by, the filter will smell and the air volume will decrease.
In addition, unlike air conditioning at home, the vehicle goes through a complicated environment. Moreover, the interior room is limited and sealed. The more complicated the air, the more odor the air conditioning filter will emit.
When we use our vehicles, the air duct can accumulate not only dust but also impurities such as dead insects, leaves and other decaying tissues. If not cleaned in time, the odor created will also enter the car.
The filtered air reaches the evaporator for condensation and the conversion of heat and cold begins. The condensate produced during the cooling process will make the evaporator environment humid. In the long term, the surface of the evaporator may not only produce mold but also a bad smell.
Clears odor and restores fresh air
- Clean or replace the air conditioning filter
Normally, the air conditioning filter should be changed every 10000km. If the smell is obvious, you can disassemble and check the air conditioning filter. Do not rinse it with water. It is suggested to dry it with a hair dryer or under the sun. Or you can directly change it with Geely genuine filters of which the quality and safety are guaranteed.
- Clean the air duct and evaporator
If the smell remains even after changing the air conditioning filter, the air duct and evaporator should be checked.
You can try these ways:
- Increase the temperature to the maximum with the air volume at maximum. Open the indoor air recirculation for 15 minutes. Then open all the doors and decrease the temperature to the lowest with the air volume at maximum. Start the outdoor air recirculation for 5 minutes. The action helps you dry the moisture in the air duct and evaporator, to kill the mold inside.
- Remove the air conditioning filter, increase the air volume to maximum. Spray the air conditioning system cleaner into the air inlet, so that the smell will disappear after a while.
If the smell still remains after trying these ways, it is suggested to visit Geely authorized service stations to thoroughly clean the air duct and evaporator, and check whether the air blower is moldy.
- How to prevent air conditioning smell
Instead of being bothered by the smell of air conditioning, it is better to prevent it before it happens! Our habits of using air conditioning and the environment inside and outside the car have a lot to do with the freshness of the air conditioning.
- It is important to keep the cabin tidy
If there are moldy carpets, clothes, trash and cigarettes inside the vehicle, complex odors mix together. After a long time of using the interior air recirculation, the air conditioning smell is caused.
Therefore, the garbage should be cleaned in time. Keep the cabin clean and tidy. If you smoke indoors, choose the outdoor air recirculation mode and open the windows.
- Preventing outdoor pollution
When the environment outside the car is not good, such as when the car passes through areas where there are a lot of exhaust gas, dust or unpleasant smells, the air conditioner should be set to the indoor air recirculation mode, so as to prevent the smell outside the car from being sucked inside through the air conditioner.
